Mama Market is a different side of New York Fashion week. Hosted by Fashion Mamas, it’s a place for fashion-loving moms to congregate with their little ones and get in a little retail therapy for both mom and baby in between all the shows at NYFW.
To be honest, I hated our first stroller. There are so many different stroller “systems” out there that even though I did my research and had the benefit of in-person demonstrations, none of it made any sense to me before I had a baby. It was the most overwhelming product decision I made. After flying across the country multiple times, talking to other Moms in my industry, and having real-life experience with a little one, the decision to upgrade to UPPAbaby VISTA was a nobrainer.
Beyond making a dent in the landfill and standing up against slave labor, the dresses themselves are timeless - stunningly beautiful gowns that I drool over. She has a vintage touch and the dresses are made to flatter the physique. As soon as I opened my decorated wooden “Christy Dawn” box and touched the fabric, I gasped “QUALITY.” This is fashion I can feel good about on the inside and outside. My Christy Dawn dresses will, no doubt, be permanent residents in my wardrobe capsule
I cannot believe it has been a full year since my first experience at the Big City Moms Biggest Baby Shower. I remember feeling overwhelmed and excited as my also-pregnant-BFF and I walked into the stunningly massive Skirball Center with hundreds of other expectant families. I was on a serious mission: learn and test out as much as I could about baby products so I could put together my registry. A year later, with a son who is 8-months-old now, I feel slightly more wizened and relaxed at the shower - this time able to take it in and enjoy it from a different view.
“It’s the Year of the Woman!” exclaims Tracy as we cheers to a much needed Mamas Trip to gorgeous Santa Barbara. Kut from the Kloth knows how to truly celebrate Women and inspire us to look beyond the fabric that we wear. I have been utterly inspired by this clothing brand that is making waves and making a difference in our community.
Moving forward is one of the most important parts of a successful life. My blog is one year old, but I'm still moving forward. That's as true for me now as it has ever been, which is why I'm excited to announce that it's my one-year blogiversary! For one year, I've been sharing my life with all of you, and it's been a wonderful experience.
Eukiah started solids at 4 months and what a fun mess it has been! Thus started my search for The best high chair. I didn’t have to look far once I found the 4moms high chair. I know because I did my homework. When I found out I was pregnant, I did what I always do. I dove into research. I'm a lawyer, organizer, and advocate so research is in my DNA. I immediately knew I wanted to the best of everything for my baby. The best food, the most educational toys, clothes that were eco-friendly but still tough, and of course, the best high chair. My research led me to one simple fact: easy and durable are the keys to the best anything when it comes to babies. That's why I love the 4moms high chair - and the brand in general!
Being organized is about more than tackling clutter. It is more than just a place for everything and everything in its place. It's more than finding places for all of our stuff. Being organized is about finding peace and balance in all things in your life and your spirit. I've believed that for my entire life, even when I was too young to put it into words. organized in our lives allows us to get rid of the chaos within ourselves as well.
The Archibald Finch Luncheon, hosted by Millennial Mamas was a great event! And I have to say, this luncheon was one of the best get-togethers I've attended in a long time. I met some amazing, powerful - and downright friendly - women who understand the power of reading and books as much as I do. You see, growing up in my house, there were no televisions. Rather than entertainment centers, we had bookshelves. In fact, my friends joked that they didn't need to go to the local library, they could just come to my house. Needless to say, I've been in love with books for my entire life. the Archibald Finch Luncheon, we talked books, reading, and the written word.
Apple Cider Vinegar for all your skin and hair conditions is the new coconut oil. But not everyone knows how to use ACV in a way that maximizes the benefits, especially when it comes to hair. Thankfully, DP Hue has perfected the recipe for ACV! Eukiah and I spent the day with the Millennial Mamas being pampered at the fabulous DP Hue House in Beverly Hills. We got scalp rinses, hair masques and blowouts (I got a “curl out”). I had no idea Apple Cider Vinegar was so good for my hair! Even as a curly girl, my hair has never felt more fresh at the root and shiny on the outside.
I recently had the opportunity to attend the flagship &Breathe postnatal well being retreat in Texas with my 3-month-old son, and I was overwhelmed by the level of care, thoughtfulness, and love put into each and every aspect of this amazing retreat. The &Breathe philosophy empowers, inspires, and says, "It's okay to need help. In fact, we're here to do that." It was an experience that I'll remember for the rest of my life. I came away from the retreat feeling empowered, enthusiastic for what's to come, and with the realization that being overwhelmed doesn't mean I'm a bad mom.
I’m excited to announce that I’ve joined the FASHION MAMAS LA Chapter! Fashion Mamas® is the first members-only network for influential mothers who work in fashion and creative industries. Founded by fashion editor Natalie Alcala, this dynamic and diverse community offers members-only resources and events where modern mamas can network, collaborate, talk business, talk motherhood, and seek non-judgmental support — all while watching our little ones grow together.
This year I’ve met some of the most inspiring entrepreneur Moms who are leading by example and changing the Mom community on a major scale. One of my FAVORITE Moms is Maria Hunt, creator and owner of Unicorn Moms. Maria’s wit and no-filter approach to life is a refreshing and much needed voice in the Mama world. I love her Instagram & Facebook pages. And as a person, she radiates a warmth and sincerity that is infectious. It’s no wonder that hundreds of women come out every year to her annual event, Unicon.
When Eukiah was born my entire universe changed in an instant. Throughout the world, a baby's birth is celebrated via many different spiritual and cultural rituals and in my family we followed the tradition of mapping out little E's astrological chart. We had fun speculating about the possibilities for this new life to come, all based on a "snapshot of the universe" at the moment he was born. Thanks to GreaterSkies, we were able to memorialize that moment with a stunning custom star chart print!
My first day back out into the world as a new Mama with my baby boy was a thrill! Baby Tula launched their latest carrier, the Explore, and I can’t think of a more fitting event to attend. Hosted at the stunning Lombardi House in Hollywood, CA, Tula curated a fun afternoon complete with flower crowns, succulent arrangement station, and fun video-booths! The best part is that we got to talk to Tula experts and get one-on-one help with fitting the carrier.
During my pregnancy we took all the infant safety classes and read all the books. When Eukiah was born, I thought I was completely prepared – swivel bassinet, crib, pack n’ play and rockers all set up. Sleeping safely should be a breeze, right? Wrong. The first thing I learned about being a new mom is how impossibly difficult it is to co-sleep safely…Finally, I started seeing images float around of these beautiful sleeping babies that seemed to be nestled into a safety raft of sorts. This safe co-sleeper is the DockATot. The DockATot is a multi-functional lounger, co-sleeper and playtime lounger that we now bring with us everywhere.
I've always been a big proponent of the Montessori Schools and education philosophy. When I learned that Montessori started the Monti Kids program I was ecstatic! Monti Kids is the best comprehensive developmental program for infants and toddlers to use at home, based on proven Montessori methods. I set up the first toy, the Munari Mobile, for Eukiah in his first week. He responded immediately to the black and white shapes slowly rotating overhead. It's fascinating to see his brain development this early on!
Having lived in big cities for most of my life, I find myself being drawn towards the “slow living” lifestyle more and more. In alignment with this, I am enjoying wearing a watch again because I’m also trying to minimize the amount of time I spend on my phone. It is no wonder, then, that JORD Watches appeals to all of my aesthetic tastes…These watches also have a lot of personal meaning for me, because Josh and I decided to name our son after our favorite tree, the eucalyptus. Our family bond is based in our love of nature and I wanted us to both have something that represented that.
Our son is lucky enough to have 2 very special Godmothers. For our Baby Shower, I wanted to get them something equally special that represents the important role they will play in his life. When I found the Made with Love by Angie shop I knew I had found the perfect gifts! Made with Love by Angie is home-run business owned by a working mom of four kids and her beautiful, personalized jewelry has become an Instagram sensation.
When I got pregnant I started paying close attention to what I put in my body, on my body, all my physical activity and especially my mental-emotional state of mind. Despite everyone's warnings that pregnancy would make me hyper-emotional, I was determined to try and maintain a rational balance - at least within my own thoughts and the energies that I surrounded myself with… WE ARE HAPPY PLACE at L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles is founded on this principle of happiness.
Even before pregnancy, I slept with pillows in-between my knees and arms for support. But once I got into my second trimester I started to build a fortress of pillows around me. It was ridiculous! I felt uncomfortable sleeping on my side, and trying to maneuver or turn over at night was an impossible feat with 6-7 moving parts. Enter the Béaba Big Flopsy Maternity and Nursing Pillow! Even the name sounds so inviting you want to just cuddle it. The first night with my Big Flopsy I slept better than I’ve slept probably in years.
31 Weeks down, 9 Weeks to go! I can't believe the time to meet our baby boy is almost here. We've been taking labor classes and doing hospital tours. Now all I need to get ready is my hospital bag for the big day... Michal and Kara are both experienced business women and inspiring supermoms who have put extraordinary passion into their company, YKC ("Your Kids Company") . They've combined their diverse backgrounds and vast research experience to create luxurious but simple hospital bags and bundles for delivering mamas.
Since Josh and I are always on the go, I wanted to find a stylish and gender neutral diaper backpack that we could use interchangeably. The Parker Baby Co. "Birch Bag" jumped out at me immediately not only because it's completely my style, but also because Josh was sitting next to me and said "that one is for me, right?" lol. Bingo.
When my best friend and I attended a big baby shower convention earlier this month, my registry was pretty much set in stone. I went to the event expecting to make a few additions and minor tweaks after reviewing products in person, but I was in for a surprise. After visiting the 4moms station and talking to the representatives I changed a lot of my registry items and put 4moms on the “must have” list! I recently got to try out a favorite item on my list: the Breeze Plus playard.
Hip-Hop isn’t just a music genre to me, it’s part of my culture. I’ve been a Hip-Hop dancer my entire life - it was the first style I learned. We followed the stories of the all-stars through the songs and the media like it was Game of Thrones. It influences our language and culture to this day. When I heard about the Little Homie’schildren’s books “for the next generation of Hip-Hop enthusiasts” I was so happy I had to grab the mic and put them on blast.
One of the things that makes me the most anxious about having a baby is figuring out how and what to cook. I don’t even cook for myself - I typically just make smoothies and easy meals in my bullet. This is why I was so excited to discover the BÉABA Babycook ! The Babycook is the all-in-one steamer and blender for baby food, and because it uses steam the nutrients are maintained in the food.
Sweet Pea 4D Baby to Be Imaging was nothing short of a magical experience for me as a first time mommy-to-be. The Sweet Pea experience is so much better than going into a cold office building for an ultrasound. They truly think of every detail to make the ultrasound comfortable, fun and memorable. When you enter through the bright, beautiful storefront, the entrance is actually a boutique that carries luxurious baby clothes and keepsakes. The staff are genuinely and excited to see your baby and the ultrasound technician is so gentle and sweet! I went with my best friend and pregnant pal, Melissa, and we made an afternoon of the experience.
Playing games with baby in the womb has become one of my favorite pastimes. Now that he can hear sounds more clearly I love singing to him and tapping on my tummy to see if he will respond. When I heard about the IladoHarmony Ball or “Bola,” I couldn’t wait to try one out! Every time the pendant taps your belly the ball makes a gentle, crystalline chiming sound. As part of an ancient Mayan tradition of maternity necklaces...
This past week a friend from my Mom Tribe invited me to attend the Stonyfield birthday celebration hosted by MomDotMe at the London in West Hollywood. Dr. Tanya Altmann, renowned pediatrician and best-selling parenting book author, mediated a Q&A about starting your baby on solids and I got to meet a bunch of sweet, funny and inspiring Super Moms and their little ones.
