During my pregnancy we took all the infant safety classes and read all the books. When Eukiah was born, I thought I was completely prepared – swivel bassinet, crib, pack n’ play and rockers all set up. Sleeping safely should be a breeze, right? Wrong. The first thing I learned about being a new mom is how impossibly difficult it is to co-sleep safely…Finally, I started seeing images float around of these beautiful sleeping babies that seemed to be nestled into a safety raft of sorts. This safe co-sleeper is the DockATot. The DockATot is a multi-functional lounger, co-sleeper and playtime lounger that we now bring with us everywhere.
I've always been a big proponent of the Montessori Schools and education philosophy. When I learned that Montessori started the Monti Kids program I was ecstatic! Monti Kids is the best comprehensive developmental program for infants and toddlers to use at home, based on proven Montessori methods. I set up the first toy, the Munari Mobile, for Eukiah in his first week. He responded immediately to the black and white shapes slowly rotating overhead. It's fascinating to see his brain development this early on!
Having lived in big cities for most of my life, I find myself being drawn towards the “slow living” lifestyle more and more. In alignment with this, I am enjoying wearing a watch again because I’m also trying to minimize the amount of time I spend on my phone. It is no wonder, then, that JORD Watches appeals to all of my aesthetic tastes…These watches also have a lot of personal meaning for me, because Josh and I decided to name our son after our favorite tree, the eucalyptus. Our family bond is based in our love of nature and I wanted us to both have something that represented that.
Our son is lucky enough to have 2 very special Godmothers. For our Baby Shower, I wanted to get them something equally special that represents the important role they will play in his life. When I found the Made with Love by Angie shop I knew I had found the perfect gifts! Made with Love by Angie is home-run business owned by a working mom of four kids and her beautiful, personalized jewelry has become an Instagram sensation.
When I got pregnant I started paying close attention to what I put in my body, on my body, all my physical activity and especially my mental-emotional state of mind. Despite everyone's warnings that pregnancy would make me hyper-emotional, I was determined to try and maintain a rational balance - at least within my own thoughts and the energies that I surrounded myself with… WE ARE HAPPY PLACE at L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles is founded on this principle of happiness.
Even before pregnancy, I slept with pillows in-between my knees and arms for support. But once I got into my second trimester I started to build a fortress of pillows around me. It was ridiculous! I felt uncomfortable sleeping on my side, and trying to maneuver or turn over at night was an impossible feat with 6-7 moving parts. Enter the Béaba Big Flopsy Maternity and Nursing Pillow! Even the name sounds so inviting you want to just cuddle it. The first night with my Big Flopsy I slept better than I’ve slept probably in years.
31 Weeks down, 9 Weeks to go! I can't believe the time to meet our baby boy is almost here. We've been taking labor classes and doing hospital tours. Now all I need to get ready is my hospital bag for the big day... Michal and Kara are both experienced business women and inspiring supermoms who have put extraordinary passion into their company, YKC ("Your Kids Company") . They've combined their diverse backgrounds and vast research experience to create luxurious but simple hospital bags and bundles for delivering mamas.
Since Josh and I are always on the go, I wanted to find a stylish and gender neutral diaper backpack that we could use interchangeably. The Parker Baby Co. "Birch Bag" jumped out at me immediately not only because it's completely my style, but also because Josh was sitting next to me and said "that one is for me, right?" lol. Bingo.
When my best friend and I attended a big baby shower convention earlier this month, my registry was pretty much set in stone. I went to the event expecting to make a few additions and minor tweaks after reviewing products in person, but I was in for a surprise. After visiting the 4moms station and talking to the representatives I changed a lot of my registry items and put 4moms on the “must have” list! I recently got to try out a favorite item on my list: the Breeze Plus playard.
Hip-Hop isn’t just a music genre to me, it’s part of my culture. I’ve been a Hip-Hop dancer my entire life - it was the first style I learned. We followed the stories of the all-stars through the songs and the media like it was Game of Thrones. It influences our language and culture to this day. When I heard about the Little Homie’s children’s books “for the next generation of Hip-Hop enthusiasts” I was so happy I had to grab the mic and put them on blast.
One of the things that makes me the most anxious about having a baby is figuring out how and what to cook. I don’t even cook for myself - I typically just make smoothies and easy meals in my bullet. This is why I was so excited to discover the BÉABA Babycook ! The Babycook is the all-in-one steamer and blender for baby food, and because it uses steam the nutrients are maintained in the food.
Sweet Pea 4D Baby to Be Imaging was nothing short of a magical experience for me as a first time mommy-to-be. The Sweet Pea experience is so much better than going into a cold office building for an ultrasound. They truly think of every detail to make the ultrasound comfortable, fun and memorable. When you enter through the bright, beautiful storefront, the entrance is actually a boutique that carries luxurious baby clothes and keepsakes. The staff are genuinely and excited to see your baby and the ultrasound technician is so gentle and sweet! I went with my best friend and pregnant pal, Melissa, and we made an afternoon of the experience.
Playing games with baby in the womb has become one of my favorite pastimes. Now that he can hear sounds more clearly I love singing to him and tapping on my tummy to see if he will respond. When I heard about the Ilado Harmony Ball or “Bola,” I couldn’t wait to try one out! Every time the pendant taps your belly the ball makes a gentle, crystalline chiming sound. As part of an ancient Mayan tradition of maternity necklaces...
This past week a friend from my Mom Tribe invited me to attend the Stonyfield birthday celebration hosted by MomDotMe at the London in West Hollywood. Dr. Tanya Altmann, renowned pediatrician and best-selling parenting book author, mediated a Q&A about starting your baby on solids and I got to meet a bunch of sweet, funny and inspiring Super Moms and their little ones.
There’s a growing awareness of the real challenges that moms face and an appreciation for these strong women who brave the adventure of motherhood. I purposely seek to support smaller companies that are owned by Moms and who promote this message of community, strength and openness about what it means to raise children. Tiny Tags is one of these companies. Their jewelry is more than just fashion; the custom pieces they make are statements of strength and love.
Happy International Women's Day! Today I'm highlighting a women-owned and operated company, FabFitFun. I love subscription boxes because they help me discover new products and brands that I wouldn't otherwise try. In this regard, the FabFitFun boxes have been a super win all around. Each box is jam packed with new health, beauty, and fashion brands from female founded companies.
We couldn't think of a better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than by revealing the gender of our biggest Love, our baby BOY! After searching through Pinterest boards and other sites for gender reveal ideas, we finally settled on My Baby's Heartbeat Bear. What makes these seriously soft stuffed animals special is that they all come with a 20 second "red heart" recorder to capture your baby's heartbeat during an ultrasound.
I was overjoyed to receive my 5 Month Healthiest Baby Box in the mail! Pregnancy has been a magical and happy time for me, but Moms also deal with a lot of symptoms that can make us feel funky. I love that my box is tailored for each month of pregnancy and all the products are natural, toxin-free, and eco-friendly.
The hardest secret I've ever had to keep is finally out! Josh and I are pregnant! I have read that it's normal for first-time moms to not show until later in the pregnancy, but I was still relieved when my baby bump finally popped out at 19 Weeks. We did a quick photoshoot at home with our friend Nishelle Walker and I'm thrilled with all the images...More importantly, we were overwhelmed by how many people reached out to share their love and support for our new family once we announced.
