My best girlfriend had a traditional, 3-day Punjabi wedding in Boston, Massachusetts at the Hyatt Regency Cambridge. My Mom was my guest for all of the wedding events which made it extra special.
I was honored to be one of her Bridesmaids and so the festivities started on a Thursday with the ladies Mehndi. We had a fun girl’s day with massages, food and the Mehndi artists apply temporary henna tattoos by freehand on our hands and feet. Then, the bride presented us with our STUNNING purple sarees, bangles, Bindis and a personalized monogram bag full of matching gifts from India. We were completely spoiled! We all spend the night with the bride at her Mom's house and had a slumber party.
The second day we moved to the hotel and a group of us prepared a bhangra dance performance for the bride and groom sangeet. We literally learned this dance in about 4 hours before performing it in front of about 250 of her guests at the dinner banquet! It was another full day of ceremonies, food and celebration.
Finally, on the morning of the big day, we helped the bride get ready and took photos. The wedding was beautiful with the unbelievable backdrop of the Charles River. Also, the family took the time to explain each meaningful part of the ceremony since both the bride and groom have a very diverse group of non-Indian friends. All of the details were so unique and cool. My favorite detail was the wedding favor: mini bottles of Sriracha with the couple's faces on them. LOL. The rest of the evening was spent dancing and celebrating true Punjabi style. It was one of the most exciting wedding weekends I've ever been a part of.
