For an entire summer, I got to live and work in Geveva, Switzerland. In the mornings I would ride my bike to school where I was taking Master’s Course in International Relations and in the afternoons I would ride my bike to work at the International Organization for Migration (a sister body to the UNHCR). I absolutely loved living in Geneva! Everyone is working on something exciting and groundbreaking, and even I got to experience working at my dream job.
Summer is the best time to enjoy all of the outdoor beauty of the country. On the weekends my friends and I would go hiking in the Swiss Alps, enjoy a gelato and a swim near the Rue de Paquis, or go to the Lucerne International Jazz festival. Every sunset there was a party on the shore we could walk to and people were welcoming and friendly as ever.
My Favorite Restaurants in Geneva:
Café Papon in the middle of Old Town
Izumi has an incredible rooftop terrace view of Lake Geneva
Not to Miss: International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum
Geneva is the French-speaking party of the country but I also got to travel to the German, Italian and Romansh provinces. My favorite city outside of Geneva is Zürich. One weekend we did something out of the ordinary and went paddling through the city waterways while a tour guide taught us all the interesting historical facts about the city.
It’s been a while since I visited, so I’ll be back soon with an update on places to stay and favorite activities!
